Yamashiro’s Pagoda Bar

Sunday BBQ at Yamashiro’s Pagoda Bar

The new and improved Pagoda Bar at Hollywood’s historic Yamashiro has kicked off summer with its BBQ pool parties. Every Sunday from 2-5pm, Executive Chef Jason Park is grilling up $3 cheeseburger sliders and Kurobuta carnita sandwiches served with a side of Asian coleslaw and house made pickles. Enjoy muddled cocktails like the strawberry Basil-Jito, Glover’s Gimlet, or one of Norman’s famous Mai Tais...

Man Bites World

The guy that runs Man Bites World is trying to see how long he can eat the food of a different country every single day for as many days in a row as possible.

Mountain Cafe

Delightful Korean comfort food. The Abalone Porridge, served with 3-4 delicious sides, and the Ginseng Chicken Soup, served with a whole small chicken in the broth are both delicious. When eating in, they crack a raw egg on top of the porridge that cooks as you stir it into the steaming abalone rice. The egg makes it even better. A note to the uninitiated: the porridge is egg-less when ordered to go; the thought being that you can add your own egg at home.

Open 24 hours and, I believe, run by the same few Korean ladies (two moms and, I think, one grandma) I've seen every time I stop in. The place is small (only a handful of tables) and hard to find, tucked in the corner of a small strip mall on the south side of 8th street in Koreatown, where many of the store fronts are only in Korean. I believe they just added "Mountain Cafe" to the marquee so the honkeys could find it. And this is one honkey who is very glad they did.

Colori Kitchen

Mattyshack took me to Colori this past weekend and I loved it. If I lived closer, I would be a Colori Kitchen regular.

Paraphrased from the website:
Colori Kitchen is a classic Italian trattoria in the heart of downtown
Los Angeles featuring the inspired cooking of Luigi Barducci Contessi, longtime executive chef at Ca Brea. The warm and welcoming
brick-walled restaurant features delicious pastas, soups, salads, fish
and meat dishes, plus traditional Italian deserts. Service is friendly, prices are affordable and the quality and variety of the cooking is a constant source of delight for the ever-growing community of Colori Kitchen regulars.

No liquor license, but bring your own bottle of wine because there is no corkage fee.
